Artist Information

Guerrero Gallery is pleased to announce “Sent Upstate” an exhibition showcasing works by Mark Mulroney. In this new body of works, Mulroney explores the themes of sex and death. Through paint and collage, Mulroney’s imagery of naked ladies, frightened men, blood, flowers and comic genitalia seem to communicate ideas associated with just living life without shame or regret. Mulroney puts it best when he says, “We are all going to die and wish we could have gotten laid more but that is no reason to be upset and feel sorry for ourselves.”

Also featured in this exhibition is a piece by Charles Linder, “Swimmingly, with Watermelons and Referrals.” Lying at the intersection of commerce, leisure and intellectual discourse, Linder’s swimming pools offer a glimpse into our own longings for depth, spiritual saturation and carnal immersion. Through his travels and ensuing encounters with those ethereal oases where we seek transformation and relaxation, pools have become wells of colors, ideas and tones that Linder uses to offer a glimpse inside his pilgrimage. For this project, it’s not just about the pool… it’s also about the flip-flops, the greased watermelons for catching, the artisanal pool drinks with umbrellas, the insider trading referral opportunities, and the svelte glitterati in bikinis. Linder invites viewers to not only reflect upon, but to splash about in the precariously shallow world that he inhabits. Get ready to stick a toe in.
